Beginning Podcasting

Written by Matt Maurer
Over the past year and a half, I have become a big fan of podcasts. Mostly because I drive at least an hour and a half everyday. I found that I could not only entertain myself, but I could actually learn new things during my morning and evening commute. I have come to listen to many shows by TWiT (Leo Laporte and friends), ATP (Siracusa, Arment, Liss), Rene Ritchie and the iMore crew, John Gruber and the like. I know I don’t have a lot of diversity in my mainstays , but I do randomly listen to podcasts about brand new topics; one of my favorites was about wine. After almost two years of being a listener, I had a close friend (who also loves podcasts) ask me if I had every considered hosting my own podcast. The thought had never occurred to me, despite the fact I’m in so many other media ventures. We planned, plotted and when the time was right we agreed to co-host a podcast of our very own. The topic was difficult to nail down at first. It was challenging at first to come up with a theme where we felt there was something unique we could contribute. There are so many great podcasts out there, it’s so easy to be mesmerized by these guys and gals who make it look so easy. We eventually decided that a hobby that we both enjoyed would make the best topic. Table Top Life was born. We’re going to discuss different table top games every episode, and help people understand the individual games better and ultimately decide if these games are for them. I hope we can contribute a unique perspective, and I truly think we will. Our first episode is done and should be posting to the usual suspects (iTunes, Google, Stitcher) in the next few days. We’ll also be hosting it on our new TTLP website and the various social media sites. It’s exciting to start a new endeavor and despite the fact we just recorded our first episode a few days ago, I can’t wait to record the next one. I hope you enjoy listening as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it for you.
